Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University founded in 1883 as the first Fine Arts Academy of the Ottoman Empire, and started to give education in the fields of painting, sculpture and architecture. In 1982 the Academy has been converted to the University according to the changes in the higher education law. Since then, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University continues education with 3 main faculties (Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Science and Literature) and besides the Music Conservatory and Vocational School as well as the Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Fine Arts and Institute of Science and Technology. MSGSÜ has a wide network of international cooperation in Europe, Central Asia, and Far East. Universities Net (BSUN), European Fine Arts Schools Association (ELIA), European Universities Association (EUA), Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN), European Conservatories Association (AEC), and European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the European Union Educational Programs are among them. Architecture Faculty is one of the important and big faculties of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Approx. 1700 undergraduate students study at the four Departments of the Architectural Faculty. In addition, every year nearly hundred of exchange students prefer to study in our faculty. This year, we accepted 85 Erasmus exchange student in our Faculty of Architecture. Faculty of Architecture signed more than 70 inter-institutional agreements with the universities from Europe, Asia. UIA Region II Vice-Presidency has been carried out since 2011, by Prof. Dr. Deniz Incedayı, one of our professors in the Architecture Department. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture has also been accreditated for 6 years by the National Accreditation Board in 2014.
Mimar Sinan Finer Arts University is one the oldest higher institutions in architecture education in Turkey. Their design studio practices and academic expertise is therefore highly relevant to the project activities. Key persons involved in the project are detailed below:
Prof. Dr. Deniz İncedayı (contact person) graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul in 1986. She had her PhD in architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1995. Today, in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture she teaches in the disciplines; ‘Architectural Design Issues’, ‘Socio-cultural Values and Spatial Transformations’ and ‘Design Studio for Construction Projects and Documents’. In the post-graduate studies she teaches, ‘Socio-Cultural Values in Architectural Design Process and Participation Models’ and ‘Interdisciplinary Approach to Architectural Design Process’. Her research and academic interest is focused on socio cultural concerns and local values in the urban and architectural design and the user participation methods and models.
